R.I.P. Memorial Community Center

The community center building at Memorial Park in West Duluth is no more. The PDD Drone did a fly through on Sunday for posterity.

The building was targeted for removal several years ago. Quoting from Duluth Parks & Recreation’s December 2010 master plan, “Strategies & Actions: Making the Vision a Reality”:

This plan recommends that the building at Memorial Park be demolished and replaced with a 3-season picnic shelter with bathrooms and storage. The green space will be shared by the community and the new Laura MacArthur School, which will also house the community center for the neighborhood.

Below are two photos from October 2013, when the building was still intact.

I love the new sights the PDD drone is offering! The children’s voices in the video were eerie as they seemed to be coming from the walls.

That ending didn’t look too comfortable for the drone.

There is a sign up now that reads: “Future site of Memorial Park Restroom Pavilion.”
