Duluth Mystery Photo #5: Baby Marge
This photo is for sale on eBay under the heading “Vintage Snapshot Photo Babies Family on Rocks 1920s Duluth Minnesota #250.” The description reads: “Offered is a great vintage picture of a darling baby girl sitting on a pile of rocks with another child and a group of adults. Photo is from the 1920s. I bought these photos from a living estate, and baby’s name is Marge and lives in Duluth Minnesota. This picture was taken down by Lake Superior probably.”
There’s not much to go on here for pinpointing a location, but apparently we do have a baby name. So, who is this Marge?
There are thousands of pictures like this in shoe boxes at antique stores or for sale on eBay for $2 – the details and identities seemingly lost forever.
The objectives of the Duluth Mystery Photo series are:
1) Maybe someone will actually recognize a person or find a clue that helps unravel the mysteries of a photo.
2) At the very least, it’s an opportunity for you to write fan fiction about characters and scenery in random old pics.

As for the Marjorie Congdon theory … well … for that to be the case the photo would have to be from the 1930s and not the 1920s, which is entirely possible.
Elisabeth Congdon was 38 years old when she adopted the 3-month-old Marjorie in 1932. I can’t say any of the women in the photo look like Elisabeth Congdon to me, but I could be wrong. I only have young and old Elisabeth photos to reference.
As for Herzog and Emmadogs’ links, I have no idea what they are referring to at all.
I picked it up right away – they’re making reference to my use of the phrase: “that minx.”
It’s a great phrase that we should start reincorporating into everyday conversation.
