Where in Duluth? — Some easy ones
From time to time on PDD we like to play a little game called “Where in Duluth?” The first person to name the location of the photo wins bragging rights.
Since this one is so easy, it will be followed up in the comments with a few more easy ones, because it just seems like the right thing to do.
I think that’s the statue of the Blessed Virgin at the Shrine of the Sacred Heart, which is on the Valley Trail behind CSS.

So if you all are so smart, where in Duluth is this one?
I’d guess the Duluth Figure Skating Club in the DECC.
Club Saratoga.
JJ has it. It’s the sign above the back door of the Club Saratoga.
So how about this easy one?
Piedmont Ski Trail.
Yep. Piedmont Ski Trail. Wildknits has it right off the bat.
This one might be a little more difficult.

Not Grandma’s. I think a lot of bars in town have this same juke.
Here’s a hint since this one is tough: The writing in the upper right corner indicates a Monday night drawing.
Well, I was gonna say the Bar at Mexico Lindo, as they have one of those Holiday-Sign lookin’ jukeboxes. But the drawring makes me think otherwise.
Since I know where Paul hails from, I am gonna go with the North Pole.
It’s not the North Pole Bar. If I were to have phrased this one as a riddle, I might say it’s “North of the North Pole.”

Before this takes a filthy limerick turn, I’ll just jump in and say, yeah, Dorkus got it. The Rustic Bar.
Cranking up the fill light even reveals the word “Rustic” on the wall behind the lovely female karaoke singer.
This one might not be that easy either, but I think we have a good competition going here.

It’s not Indian Point, but don’t give up, Emmadogs. You can do it. Believe!
Just a wild guess but… Boy Scout Landing?
Not Boy Scout Landing. The closest guess so far, Indian Point, is still about fives miles off.
Sheesh – that puts it somewhere in the vicinity of Rice’s Point if on the waterfront (Bay) or possibly up the hill?!?!

Brighton Beach?
It’s not Brighton Beach or Twin Ponds. Wildknits is on to something with her other guess, though.
Is it on an island?
Near the Interstate Bridge/Fishing Dock?
Wildknits is close enough, since I don’t think there is a specific name for the location on this one. I would describe it as “near the parking lot at the end of Rice’s Point.”
So Wildknits wins!
That was essentially what I was getting at – there are just a few parking lots down there and I couldn’t figure out which one would have the table.
Whoo hooo!! Now I can stop haunting google maps, zooming in on areas I know, but not well enough apparently.
You were describing the opposite side of the Blatnik Bridge from where the photo was shot, but certainly close enough.
Here’s the fuller view of the image, so you can see the relation to the Blatnik.
Ah ha! Thought by looking at the overhead view it might have been there. Yes – the full photo would have been a dead give away.
The willows were a good clue, not too many places that have them in the area. What threw me were the rocks… looks like rhyolite. Possibly from the quarry near Point of Rocks?
