   I went to the opening and could not understand why the band that was playing was selected…too loud for the space, discordant, bad…does this make me an old crabby person who doesn’t get the current music scene? Art was interesting!

   Sean Elmquist, whose work is on display in the Morrison gallery, is the drummer in the band. All the members of Healthy Band Music Club generously donated their time and talents to make the evening a special event.

   Of course we are all welcome to our own opinions and tastes. Thanks for coming!

   I loved Sean’s show and would have had a great time no matter who played, but Healthy Band and the dancers (Erin & Grace I think?) completely made my night. I’m just sad that I missed part of it because it was a little too loud for my kids to stand right in front.

   The acoustics in that room are not conducive to anything with volume. It’s hard to hear someone give a speech through a PA there.

   TimK is so right on this one. The acoustics do indeed suck in the Great Hall. I can never understand what anyone is saying when they’re speaking there.

   Okay then, how about an “Art Challenge” event–who can figure out how to use the acoustics in that monstrous space to an aesthetically pleasing purpose? I’ve always thought it’s a space that would lend itself to a solo French horn noodling through meditations on mortality. Any other ideas out there?

   I think vibraphone, chimes, harp, solo upright bass might work.
