Threaded Comments – This is only a test
Those of you who are regular PDD readers may have noticed that the comments have changed to allow threading — so you can respond directly to one comment rather than having it appear several comments below the one it is relevant to.
PDD administrators turned this function on today to see if it works good or crappy. We might get rid of it right away. We might keep it and tweak it to work better. So try not to fall in love with it or hate it too much.
On one hand, threading is awesome and “up to date”.
On the second hand, change hurts.
On the third hand, I like pain.
On the 4th hand, I’m for threading.
If it turns out we want to pursue it, we will try to make it a bit more pretty.

I think it should be the same color as the rest of the site. Grey hurts my eyes.

I find it distracting, but I will get used to it, I am sure.
I think threading is a good idea–but I’m noticing that about the same time that the threading appeared, the “Mark All Comments Read” function on the left side under list of recent comments seemed to stop working. I like to use that function to clear comments–is there any connection between that function ceasing to work and the addition of the threading possibilities?
Thanks for mentioning that, Davids. We noticed the “Mark All Comments Read” function not working once, then tried it on another computer and it worked. So now we know it’s a real issue and not a figment of our imagination. Once the tech guy gets done sleeping until noon, we’ll try to figure that out.

It is a cookies issue in Firefox due to the upgrade to WP 2.9. I have a fix. See comment below.
Since upgrading to WP 2.9 the unread comment plug-in is having issues in FireFox due to the old cookies. Once the old cookies expire it will self correct itself, but until then you can fix yourself by removing the old cookies in FireFox.
All you have to do is clear your PDD cookies.
Tools > Options…
Choose Privacy… Choose ‘Show Cookies’
Scoll to Perfectduluthday.com folder, highlight and click remove cookies.

Okay, Cory, so I need your tech-xpertise to fix the problem on my Mac. (I’m one of those weird people who work in a PC environment, but then have a Mac environment at home.) It’s not just a Firefox issue, b/c I use Safari at home. How do I fix it on my home Mac?

In Safari for Mac OS X, to remove the old PDD cookies:
1. In Safari, from the Safari menu, select Preferences… .
2. Click the Security tab.
3. To remove one or more cookies, highlight the cookie(s) and click Remove. To remove all cookies, click Remove All.

Love the threaded comments!!!
I wanted to like threaded comments, but I’m finding them clunky and a bit confusing.
It’s difficult (impossible?) to know if I’ve read the latest comments without going through every single comment thread and re-reading.
Just my opinion. Thanks for listening.
Yes that is the same things some of us are thinking. Although if you click the number next to the recent comments it will shoot you directly to the newest comment. I may explore making that more obvious and easier to click.
The most distracting thing for me is when a comment generates a number of replies, you have to scroll through all the replies to find the author of the original comment.
