Kenny wishes you all a Happy Holiday!

After numerous comments on my “Merry F***ing Christmas” thread, I got a phone call from Chief Gordon Ramsey. He was most cordial and apologetic about my ticket and offered to take care of it in a manner amenable to me. So, I deleted the previous thread- and have a lot of respect for the power of this little ol’ PDD blog and for our DPD Chief. Kenny wishes you all a Happy Holiday (and he is still for sale).

THAT is a Christmas miracle! Or something.

High five to Chief Ramsey for having a soul.

So is it illegal to have a for sale sign when parked on the street or what? Did the ticketing officer manufacture the charge or is Ramsey just giving you a break because of the bad PR? Either way something’s still screwy here.

Merry Christmas TimK, glad it all worked out. Now, about my ticket last winter for not moving my car for a few days. . .

That is truly amazing! I am most impressed with Mr. Ramsey. Not only is he world-class chef, he’s also a world-class police chief.

    God bless us, every one.

Sweet (uttered in my best Ashton Kutcher voice).

you were so impressed with the chief, that you thought it would be nice to spell his name wrong, his name is actually spelled Gordon Ramsay. Just like the Chef

Bah Humbug, Menards Guy! It’s coal in the stocking for you.

The problem is that all of that good discourse is lost. Outsourcing of traffic tickets is heinous. Did this Tarryton, NY agreement take a job from our fair city?

Why do you have to pay $3.50 to pay your ticket on an automated phone system? Why are their late fees 200% more than an actual parking ticket?

fergus, yes it was probably to remove bad PR. It still is a crime. You are still guilty of said crime.

Fergus, in the original thread here I mentioned that I had looked up the ordinance cited on the ticket and found the following in the Legislative Code of the City of Duluth, Minnesota, quite surprisingly:

    (26) Section 33-90, parked with for sale sign;

Sec. 33-90. Parking vehicles on street for sale prohibited.

No person shall place any vehicle on a highway to display the same for sale or exchange. A vehicle shall be deemed to be displayed in violation of this Section when found standing upon a street and bearing indications that it is for sale or exchange. (Ord. No. 6838, 6-12-1950, § 67.)

mk…….considering it came in response to the airing of the grievances, I’d classify it as a festivus miracle…

  12. fergus fergus on December 21, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Thanks, Lane. But it appears Tim and others have been all too easily swayed from righteous anger to shameless buttkissing through a paltry act of favoritism.

Ticketing is a sick business and a parasitic way for the city to earn money. They assess a 400 percent fine if you don’t pay in 30 days. Even the loan sharks aren’t that bad.

Bah! Humbug! Unless the chief decides to rescind everyone’s outstanding parking tickets.

Fergus, I think your “righteous anger” is misdirected. Chief Ramsey did a nice thing here, and TimK thanked him for it. Thanking someone isn’t “buttkissing,” and the idea that the chief should “rescind everyone’s outstanding parking tickets” would be the reason why most police chiefs would be jerks and not rescind this one.

If you don’t like this particular parking code and find the city’s fees unreasonable — and you’re probably in the majority on that — then perhaps you should make that known to your city councilor.

You’re right that killing this ticket shouldn’t eliminate the issue of whether this law makes any sense. But Chief Ramsey’s action should help us debate the issue with a bit more righteousness and a little less anger. And that would be a good thing.

Holy crap, sbuchanan! It WAS a festivus miracle! I owe you a beer for catching that one.
