Interesting, huitz–my sister-in-law worked on the old AMANDA project, and I think is still active with Icecube. Ironically (?) we have a friend who works on a different big neutrino detection project– down in the Soudan Mine.
The Ice Cube political arena is a bit strange. People come and go all the time. They made a solid infrastructure to make it viable, but many high end people drop like flies, move on to other projects; you get the idea. For them, it’s all or nothing. I have faith in the south pole project, more out of curiosity than discovery.
From an ME standpoint, drilling holes with hot water is brilliant, but obviously has its pratfalls.
I don’t care about the dark matter! I wanna here about the underground lair. That sounds so 2012 that I want to see it!!!!
