Looking for a local knife sharpening to put a good edge on my kitchen knives. Anyone have any suggestions?

there used to be a local service called mr. knife guy, but it’s long gone. my suggestion is to get a stone and figure out how to sharpen them yourself. it would be a great skill to have, and you would never have the inconvenience of trying to find a knife sharpener. plus, you could sharpen my knives and charge me a small fee! (just a thought.)

Marshall Hardware can get your sharpening done. I think they run the gamete from saw chains to pairing knifes.
git yerself a geen-u-ine ouachita whetstone and doit yerself!
my dad had a really nice set of sticks that mounted into a really nice base. it was easy to use and did a pretty good job of keeping our kitchen blades sharp.

Sweet. I knew I loved Marshall Hardware for reasons I had yet to discover. I’m all about learning it myself, gang, but need to start with a sharp edge. They’re really bad.
there’s a bead place out in lakeside (47th-ish?) that (improbably) sharpens knives. it was four dollars a knife and they did an excellent job.
@ Greg: that’s Puukko Cutlery inside the bead store, just down the street from the New London. Nice little selection of knives, mostly puukkos from Kauhavan puukkopaja in Finland and Helle from Norway.
I picked up my Helle there last year, and the Kauhavan puukos are excellent high carbon steel work knives. I really wish I hadn’t lost mine. My guess is that it’s sitting underneath a bunch of dirt in a flowerbed.
Yes, Puuko is great. The store sells other neat stuff like brain-tanned deerhide.
That said, I really have to go over the Marshall and find out how to run that gamete!
