A & Dubs set to reopen this summer

Duluth’s iconic A & Dubs seasonal drive-in restaurant will reopen after sitting idle for two summers. The new owners, Mike Koralia and Ryan Spears, wrote in a post on the A & Dubs Facebook page they plan to announce an opening date soon.
The restaurant is located at 3131 W. Third St. in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. Its roots date back to 1948, when Lloyd and Shirley Tillman opened an A&W restaurant, one of the earliest drive-ins in the city. Over the decades, it became a neighborhood landmark known for classic car-side service, homemade root beer, and a menu that stayed true to its concept after the restaurant rebranded and separated from the national A&W chain in the early 1970s.
Syl and Sandy Hantz took over ownership in 1978. The couple announced in April 2024 they would not open that summer. “Health concerns have made the day to day operation of our small mom and pop business not feasible,” they wrote on Facebook. A & Dubs remained closed in 2025.
