Heart of Gartman

Embedded above is the trailer for the documentary Heart of Gartman: A Portrait of Marc Gartman, produced and directed by Jerree Small. The movie screens tonight at Zeitgeist Zinema during the “Stories of Lake Superior” segment of the Minnesota Film Festival.

Synopsis: The year is 2012, and Marc Gartman is in turmoil. He has been a dedicated musician in his adopted home of Duluth, MN. But after years of struggling, he has hit a wall of mounting frustration and hurt. We meet him at the crossroads of working through his depression and finding a new path (through therapy, on Lexipro, as a fry cook, as a taxi driver, playing ’80s keyboard, living alone for the first time, swapping his touring van for a sensible Buick, and euthanizing his ailing cat, “Puppy”). Documentary includes interviews with Al Sparhawk, Dave Carroll, Eric Pollard, Matt Mobley, Brian “Lefty” Johnson.
