Volunteer outdoors with Northwoods Volunteer Connection

Northwoods Volunteer Connection, a nonprofit based in Tofte, is recruiting volunteers for environmental stewardship projects clearing trails in the Tofte and Gunflint Ranger Districts of the Superior National Forest through October. Volunteers wishing to volunteer in other parts of the SNF can be accommodated.

Due to current safety concerns regarding travel and gatherings of people, NVC is focusing on recruiting local volunteers for single-day trail work, rather than multi-day wilderness projects. Projects are now also limited to individual volunteers, households and family groups, and “social bubble pods” (small groups of people who socialize safely outside of the household).

Those interested in volunteering can email info @ mnnvc.org or check out more details on at mnnvc.org. NVC is taking inquiries from those interested and setting them up with individually tailored projects to fit their experience and interest. The organization supplies tools, personal protective equipment, training and leadership, and a per diem to cover food costs while on projects. Those planning recreational canoe and hiking trips into the Boundary Waters can volunteer to check or clear campsites, trails and portages along their planned route.
