City Pages honors Mary Bue and Sam Cook

Former Duluth-based musician Mary Bue and Duluth News Tribune columnist Sam Cook were honored by City Pages this week in its annual Best of the Twin Cities issue.

Bue took the award for Best Songwriter, with City Pages noting that “her lyrics are free-spirited but wary, resolute in the aftermath of failed and sometimes abusive love affairs, and her singer-songwriter’s sense of hooky structure gives her band a solid base to work up some sharp arrangements.”

Cook was awarded Best Columnist, and referred to as a “salt-of-the-earth muser on the North Shore, one who’s immune to the hot-take chaos of our current hellworld.”

The full City Pages clips on Bue and Cook are below.
