The Slice: Stickball at Grand Portage

Watch historical reenactors play stickball as they would have 200 years ago at Grand Portage National Monument.

In its series The Slice, WDSE-TV presents short “slices of life” that capture the events and experiences that bring people together and speak to what it means to live up north.

There is a community of players in the Twin Cities organized by the good people of Homegrown Lacrosse. They are usually playing right before my son's team gets the field for practice on Saturdays. Throwing a ball with modern equipment is challenging ... trying to connect on a pass with this traditional gear is much more so. For those of us who have played, you can't help but respect the skills needed with Indigenous Lax. It's great to see the sport thriving.
