Missing Person: Jacob Lavoie

The Duluth Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 21-year-old Jacob Michael Lavoie. He was last seen at Grandma’s Sports Garden in Canal Park on Saturday, Aug. 31, at around midnight, and early on the morning of Sept. 1.

Lavoie is a white male, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. He might be wearing a black Nike baseball hat, red/salmon long-sleeve shirt and jeans. Anyone who has information about Lavoie’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Duluth Police Department Juvenile Services Unit at 218-730-5560, or call 911.

Sept. 5 Update: The Duluth Police department continues to investigate Lavoie’s disappearance. In a release today the DPD specified Lavoie was last seen leaving Grandmas Sports Garden at approximately 12:08 a.m. on Sept. 1 and was walking in a northerly direction toward downtown.

While the police department has conducted organized searches with the assistance of the St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Duluth Fire department, it is not in need of volunteers at this time.

Citizens and business owners who own properties within the outlined area however, can assist in checking locations around their own immediate properties and abandoned buildings, vehicles, stairwells, outbuildings, dumpsters, boats or anywhere a person could hide. In addition to searching property business owners are also asked to review security systems from the period of 00:00-06:00 on Sept. 1 for a person matching Lavoie’s description.

Sept. 7 Update: At approximately 3 p.m. on Sept. 6 the Duluth Police Department and St. Louis County Rescue Squad recovered the body of a deceased male from the Minnesota Slip in Canal Park. The identity of the body was later confirmed to be that of Jacob Michael Lavoie, a UMD student. His body was transferred to Midwest Medical Examiners Office where the cause and manner of his death will be determined pending autopsy results.
