Bent Paddle nabs Great American Beer Festival gold again

Bent Paddle Brewing won its second Great American Beer Festival gold medal this weekend in Denver, Colo. The Duluth brewery’s saison took the top honor in the Classic Saison category.

Last year Bent Paddle brought home the first Great American Beer Festival gold medal won by a Duluth brewery when its 14° ESB was tops in the Extra Special Bitter category. Bent Paddle 14° ESB also took a silver medal in 2015 and a bronze in 2014.

The Great American Beer Festival is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. During this year’s ceremony at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, 306 awards were presented in 102 beer categories. A group of 293 beer experts evaluated the 8,496 entries from 2,404 breweries.

Fitger’s Brewhouse is also a past Great American Beer Festival medal winner, taking home a silver in the German-style Dopplebock or Eisbock category in 2015 for its Procrastination Dopplebock, a bronze in the American-Style Sour Ale category in 2012 for its Fitger’s Framboise and another bronze in the French- and Belgian-Style Saison category in 2004 for its Farm House Reserve.
