Up North Lit

The Duluth area saw the launch of a new online literary journal in 2017. Up North Lit debuted in June with its Summer issue and has also published a Fall 2017 issue.

The journal was founded by Jacob Lindberg, Steve Fruehauf and Andy Wolfe. Lindberg and Fruehauf are Superior High School students; Wolfe is a language arts teacher at the school.

Up North Lit seeks to “showcase the very best creative work of emerging and established writers and artists in the Midwest,” with the mission to “bring the work of high school students into conversation with the work of experienced writers and artists at any point of their career, and see what new discussions, perspectives, and ideas are formed.”

About half of the journal is devoted to the work of high school students. Submissions are accepted year round for the online edition. A print edition is planned for Summer 2018.
