Bent Paddle 14° ESB grabs gold at Great American Beer Festival

Bent Paddle Brewing won Duluth’s first Great American Beer Festival gold medal two weeks ago. It was the third time 14° ESB won a medal in the Extra Special Bitter category. It took the silver medal in 2015 and the bronze in 2014.

The Great American Beer Festival is the largest commercial beer competition in the world. During this year’s ceremony at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, 293 awards were presented in 98 beer categories covering 161 different beer styles. A group of 276 beer experts from 13 countries evaluated the 7,301 commercial entries from 1,783 breweries.

Fitger’s Brewhouse is also a past Great American Beer Festival medal winner, taking home a silver in the German-style Dopplebock or Eisbock category in 2015 for its Procrastination Dopplebock, a bronze in the American-Style Sour Ale category in 2012 for its Fitger’s Framboise and another bronze in the French- and Belgian-Style Saison category in 2004 for its Farm House Reserve.

A relative from Duluth brought me a 6 pack of this last week. Nice beer! Too bad it isn't available in the Deep South.
