Lyric Kitchen and Bar will replace Porter’s

Holiday Inn & Suites-Duluth and Lion Hotel Group announced today the name and concept for their new restaurant — Lyric Kitchen and Bar. It will open in October, following four months of renovations to the space in the Holiday Center formerly occupied by Porter’s restaurant.

The name is a nod to Duluth’s past. The restaurant is located at 205 W. Superior St. on the historic Lyric block in Duluth, which was once home to grand theaters and touring opera companies.

“We are excited to soon welcome Duluthians and visitors to Lyric Kitchen × Bar,” Gerry Goldfarb, general manager of the Holiday Inn & Suites Duluth, said in a news release. “Lyric Kitchen × Bar will be Duluth’s newest spot for good food and libation. We invite you to follow our progress on social media and join us for our October opening.”

The new restaurant will offer a range of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, including burgers, pizzas, steaks and entrees — all under the banner of “Good stuff. Not stuffy.” The bar and dining menus will feature traditional and locally-sourced products.

“There is no doubt that Duluth is changing and Lyric Kitchen × Bar will provide an updated take on the foods that Minnesotans have enjoyed for generations,” Adam McCort, Holiday Inn-Duluth’s food and beverage manager, said the news release. “From prime rib and popovers to poutine and everything in between, our goal is to offer good food at a great value, in a relaxed and happy atmosphere.”

Has anyone else been here? We visited last weekend and liked the bar area and wish we'd sat there. As for the food -- we won't be dining there again -- just drinking. I had salmon with a honey sriracha glaze on it and it was pretty mediocre. My husband and friend both had the pasta puttanesca and were just as disappointed. The service, though, was excellent.
