Trampled by Turtles – “It’s a War” live at Red Rocks

Trampled by Turtles played a killer show Saturday night at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado. The night was led off by Shakey Graves, then Elephant Revival played a great set before the Turtles took the stage. They closed the show with “It’s a War.”

You didn't drive all the way out there just for that?

I saw the gig poster for this show pop up on Instagram. $30 on the artist's webstore.

And to think this show only burned 10,000 gallons of gasoline (conservative). Bluegrass/roots music has been devastating on the environment these last few years. For that reason I wish Jerry Garcia had never died. He kept the genie-in-the-bottle on this whole thing, somewhat like Saddam in Iraq. But it's great so many bands making it these days without even really being good songwriters. For one, they're stimulating the economy with their tireless work ethic and racking up Facebook likes. If that ain't American?

But knowing what I know now, I don't think I'd even drive out there if the Beatles were playing because why would you leave Duluth in the summer? Then again, this show was near the Comanche's ancestral homeland. The area we now call Southpark, a scant few miles from there, was actually the place they'd go to relax after performing unspeakable barbarous acts over long distances on horseback. Could you imagine a posse of mounted warriors suddenly appearing on stage thrust out of the space-time continuum fog machine just as the band was climaxing? The natives would become restless, and by evening's end, there'd be nothing left but smoldering embers and the distant cry of some banjo lover being roasted alive in a cowhide.

Apparently there was more than one show poster. This one is by Erica Williams.
