Red Herring Lounge opens June 5

The Red Herring Lounge has a grand opening planned for June 5-7. For some history on the old building at 208 E. First St., check out the 2013 “Rocket Bar Renovation” post.

From a news release:

After two years of planning and preparation, the Red Herring will ring in its grand opening on June 5, 6 and 7 with three nights of “music, art and drinks; in that order.” The three-night bonanza will feature 16 musical acts, a different food caterer each night, work by two local artists, swag giveaways and a photo booth.

Conceptualized two years ago by local entrepreneur Bob Monahan to fill a niche in Duluth’s music venue mishmash, the end result is nothing short of a work of art. The level of care and craftsmanship apparent in nearly every aspect of the freshly renovated building, built in 1886, is astounding.

The only thing that remains of the original structure is the exposed brick and wooden beams seen throughout the building’s interior. Monahan’s plan is to feature live music four to five nights a week, showcasing a variety of musical genres, and mix in other types of performance art, such as poetry and theater.

The screening of the movie Wind Song at the Red Herring during the Duluth Superior Film Festival seems to have been removed from the festival schedule.
