Talk about intense, and how amazing and great that no one was seriously hurt! It's made world news, and I guess it'll be on Dateline too.

What I see in the footage what scares me is that the pilot of the top plane wasn't even watching what he was doing. He was looking at the people out on the ledge the whole time when he crashes right into the other plane below him. It is amazing no one was killed, but if I was the NTSB I would probably be looking at that tape pretty closely. I've had family jump with this group and one member's experience was very scary.

Didn't they have a death a few months ago when a parachute didn't open?

In July, two skydivers landed nearly a half mile out in Lake Superior off Park Point. Neither were injured.

Two years ago, a skydiver got caught in strong winds and landed near Bryant Elementary School, injuring her leg.

There was a death in 1997 when a backup parachute didn't open.

Those are the only incidents I'm aware of. I tandem jumped once in 1997 and got a grass stain on my jeans when I landed, so I suppose we can count that, too.

A Duluth News Tribune story today notes one death I didn't mention and clarifies the details of the one I did.


FAA records show the company or planes registered to the Androsky family have been involved in two fatalities.

On Oct. 1, 2001, two skydivers collided in mid-air, knocking one unconscious and rendering him unable to deploy his parachute. He later died at a hospital.

On April 4, 1997, a Brainerd man got twisted in his parachute during a three-way jump and was not able to open his reserve chute until he was 100 feet above the ground. He died instantly upon impact.
