Temporarily retired songwriter looking for broken or malfunctioning iPhones

Okay, maybe this is plain wrong, but … I  need about 30 broken or malfunctioning iPhones to conduct an informal experiment in survival here on your planet. I’ll even pay for some if necessary, but if yours got ran over by a herd of drunken yaks, or did the backstroke in the tub, or just plain ain’t acting right anymore, and you’re thinking of disposing of it either properly or improperly, how about allowing me to intercept that shattered, twisted, all-too-quiet device for my experiment?

Please contact me at iduntaken @ yahoo.com if you’ve got one of these broken-down digital talking machines.

My interest is peaked as to what your experiment could be...

Thanks for your interest. Of course it might be a thundering letdown for you to know, but the "experiment in survival" is three-fold. First, I have come to know that iPhones suffer immediate demise far too easily, and for two basic reasons: Swimming, if even for three seconds, and falling, if even just a foot or so. I am doing some testing to see about making slight modifications to make an iPhone that is much more waterproof and much less easily destroyed. Secondly, I know many iPhones brought to be "recycled" are shipped to India to be melted down, and I personally think I can "recycle" them in a more environmentally friendly fashion. And thirdly, yes, I won't feel too terribly guilty if I happen to repair a few and get some of my investment back in the process. Thanks again.

If you are worried (as I am) about the sustainability of our throw-away phones and where they go when they die, you can recycle them for free at City Hall. There's a container on the first floor for old phones which are then reused or recycled responsibly rather than being shipped to third-world countries for whatever.

They also recycle CDs and DVDs as well as ink cartridges.

By the way, working used phones will still call 911 even without a phone plan so they still can still be used for emergencies.

Now back the therealdoug's previously scheduled thread.

My iPhone is waterproof and shock resistant. Lifeproof cases are the shi*t.

"If you are worried... you can recycle them for free at City Hall."

Perhaps you did not notice in my opening post, but what I am asking is to allow me to intercept your iPhone BEFORE you bring it to be recycled.

Also, many of the iPhones I am hoping to find will not function even enough to call 911. Thanks for your comment, but it seems as if it did not "fit" at all with my original post.

@ therealdoug - you should (join if not a member) and place a WANTED post on our local Duluth Freecycle Group or the sister group Twin Ports Coffee Shop
(stuff for sale cheap) - might have more luck there.

Please note that I clearly write that "I will pay for some" ... meaning, if an iPhone has not been run over by a train or laid at the bottom of a lake for a day, it will have usable parts or may even be repairable. That said, I am well aware of the fact that many of these broken iPhones are brought to electronics recyclers, and so I also hoped maybe a few folks might not mind if I intercepted their phone instead. Anyway, thanks to all the kind people who work behind the scenes to offer this website for positive exchanges, and I appreciate having given it a try.
