Swimming trainer needed

I am looking for some training assistance.  I want to start competing in triathlons but my swimming skills are awful.  I would like to learn proper form, efficiency and technique.  Here’s the rub, I work out of town for 21 days and then home (Duluth) for 21 days so the tri teams and clubs are not the right fit.

    Check this guy out:

    Duane Dobko
He used to make trips up to Duluth. He might not anymore, I am not sure. I have not gotten an e-mail for a while.

Are you a Y member? They offer private lessons for kids, I don’t see why they wouldn’t schedule the same for adults.

I’d teach a private swim lesson (or several), but I don’t have easy access to a pool … however in my high school and college years my part time gig was always teaching swim lessons. Every place I worked had some means of me doing private lessons. Call the rec sports folks at UMD or the Y.

The Essentia Fitness Center has a pool as well.
Duane Dobko used to do his lessons there about once a month. It might not be too hard to get a lane there for lessons for an hour or two.

One of my co-workers had swim lessons from Howie Leathers. I am not sure how to contact him. The Y I think might be the place to ask.

The Essentia Fitness center has half price day passes in December. $3 +tax.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking that the Center was probably the place to get some lessons but the Y is also a possibility. Cheers

Howie or Ted Patton would be my suggestions–drop me an email and I’ll pass along contact info.

I am also interested in this. I am open to the schedule being strange and would happily split the cost of private lessons. I did my first sprint tri last summer and the swim was my worst event.

Did you do Brewhouse? I am thinking that the longer course is what I am going to do. The short course just seems a bit to short for all the training. My goal in the future is an Ironman.

Howie or Ted indeed. Personally I would stay away from the CPF pool as it is way gross (cloudy with major chemicals) and the locker room scene is sketch.

Idog- I did the lifetime fitness tri in the cities. Will be doing the Brewhouse this year. Bucket list not race style for me…but having people grab my feet and swim over the top of me was disconcerting. Planning to train the swim harder this year, for sure.
