Once bitten, ship escapes Duluth pirates at dawn.

The BBC Orinoco slipped out of Duluth this morning at first light. Was the Ukrainian/Filipino crew concerned about ANOTHER pirate attack? Turns out the same boat and crew were attacked just six months ago on the Arabian Sea.

Lots more details here.

Paging Johnny Depp.

Slade: Saw it leave while I was watching The wedding. It was a beautiful morning for ship watching. Didn’t realize the history this vessle has had. Interesting and thanks.

More than 1/2 of merchant ships are registered under Flags of Convenience. For the most part you never really know where any given ship is from. Merchant shipping makes the internet look like a bunch of insurance adjusters.

True that. Who knew the Marshall Islands were such a maritime powerhouse? Oh, wait, that’s just the normal I-don’t-want-to-pay-taxes-or-fair-wages setup.
