Blatnik Bridge Under Construction

I found this old slide and thought I would share it since these pictures seem to be a bit rare around here. It is a Kodachrome.

    Pretty cool, and quite timely.

What year was the bridge built?

The Blatnik Bridge replaced the Interstate Bridge in 1961. This was a decade before I was born, but it appears the cars in the image above are entering the old bridge on the Superior side in this photo, on their way to Duluth. The sign reads “Over head clearance 15 feet.”

The pillars to the left are for the new Blatnik Bridge. I think I see a tiny spec on the hillside in the background that must be Enger Tower.

Oh, and in case the Big E’s comment confused anyone, this post is timely because Kodachrome is officially a dead medium as of Dec. 30, 2010. Dwayne’s Photo in Parsons, Kan. was that last place that still processed it.

I found a couple more. I think these slides came from a sale in Lakeside.
