Is this a cafe, charity or cult?

Why is there a billion Fusion places in Duluth?

Because someone is good at selling franchises.

Good luck. I think the market is way over saturated, but then again I mainly drink Coca-Cola and coffee (Alakef, when I can).

I think "fusion" might be to today what mineral water was to the 1980s, but I'm not quite sure.

Yey! Another multilevel marketing scheme disguised as a nutritional shake shop. I'm sure their vitamins, herbs and minerals are good for you ... but at the cost of blood. Pass. It's not a franchised business; fusion shops are simply a storefront for the pyramid to convince you to sign up to become a distributor of Herbalife. No offense.

Complete garbage disguised as a nutritional product. Eat your fruit and veggies, it's easy and cheap.

Fruits and veggies easy and cheap?

For the sake of argument:

New York Times: A High Price for Healthy Food

I think the Fusion franchise is successful because it offers nutrition and convenience. It's a fast-food option without the Big Mac guilt. But yeah, it's also pretty cult-like. Fad diets are the ultimate get-rich-quick biz.

Quite a stat in that NYTimes article:

A 2,000-calorie diet would cost just $3.52 a day if it consisted of junk food, compared with $36.32 a day for a diet of low-energy dense foods.

That is an interesting stat, but what I think it tells us about is not the real cost of healthy food rather than junk food -- instead it tells us about the way our industrial food system has subsidized (through our tax monies), the system of food that favors high calorie, low nutrition "edible food-like substances" (Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto).

And I know, when you're on a tight budget that difference really doesn't matter 'cause you gotta eat enough of something on 3 bucks a day to keep you from feeling like you're starving.

Cold Fusion is Herbalife whose founder just happened to be a pill popping alcoholic who overdosed. If you have no morals and/or self worth go for it!
