Drums! Dance! Duluth! Performance!!!

Experience Over the Top Dance Studio’s new production, “Drums! Dance! Duluth!” an exploration of the rich dance and rhythmic traditions of Latin America!

Aug. 30-31, Sept. 1 @ Teatro Zuccone

“Drums! Dance! Duluth!” is a collaboration between Over the Top’s artistic director and principal dancer Juliana Bertelsen, and Latin drummer/percussionist Andrew Turpening.  Juliana and Andrew will be joined by Cuban pianist Yandi Villalonga, and by several dancers including Duluth’s Danny Whitehead and Erin Tope and dancer/choreographer Byron Johnson of Minneapolis’ Salsa Police and the Minneapolis Salsa Movement.

“Drums! Dance! Duluth!” is excited to introduce Miami-based Cuban singer and composer Daniel Martin, who has performed worldwide with Cuba’s best musicians, including with members of the Buena Vista Social Club.  Daniel will perform two of his original songs in the production, accompanied by live drums and dancers.

“Drums! Dance! Duluth!” will take audiences on a tour through Latin America … the styles of music in the show include Timba, Cha Cha Cha and Afro-Cuban music from Cuba, Tango from Argentina, classic piano pieces from Spain, Salsa from New York, Bachata from the Dominican Republic and Reggaeton from Puerto Rico.

“Drums! Dance! Duluth!” will take place at Teatro Zuccone (222 E. Superior St. in Duluth, phone 218-336-1414) on 8/30, 8/31 and 9/1.  All shows start at 8 P.M. and cost $10.  Advance tickets are now available at teatrozuccone.com.  There will be two opening acts:  a group of salsa dancers from Over the Top Dance Studio, and Funk Soul Patrol, a small (but larger than life) hip-hop crew from UMD.  Come join us!
