Paranormal Duluth

Hello! This is my first PDD post. I have lurked on the site reading other’s posts for awhile and have enjoyed the site a ton. So thanks all!

This post is about the paranormal in Duluth. I thought that perhaps with the vast PDD audience I could get some more stories or information on sites that are supposed to be haunted.

I know of the Blue man at the Depot (mainly seen in the Duluth Playhouse Theatre), the supposed haunting of Fairlawn, of Glensheen, and I’ve heard stories about the Nemadji Cemetery in Superior’s East End. Does anyone else have any good spots in the area or stories of ghosts, apparitions, or unusual activity? If so please share.

Billy's Bar (formerly the Idle Hour) has been haunted by a ghost named Quigly for years. A real trickster, turning off lights, closing doors, etc.

The Duluth East "little theater" is supposedly haunted by a ghost, I think named Robert? I think he was a former drama teacher at the school.

There are a couple of spooks at Great Lakes Aquarium. They are children. I got used to them when I worked the night shift and they would taunt me mercilessly.

You know, if you're going to bother to film "creepy stuff," you really ought to be able to stand still and, you know, *film it* instead of running away screaming "ohshitohshitohshit!!" before it's even possible to see if your buddy is the one who shoved the cart or bed (who can tell?) down the hall.

(Unless of course, the whole point of being pretend-creepy is to obscure all possibility of seeing wtf is going on.)

I'm with hbh1. If you want to film something scary, film it. We don't need to hear your F words and oshitoshitoshit because it makes you seem like high school kids out on a lark. Just kinda boring.

I remember reading about an old saw mill in Oulu, WI, about 30 minutes east of Superior on highway 2, having some sort of weird paranormal stuff happening. There also used to be a house at 2202 Tower Avenue that had some unexplained stuff happen at it, there was a story about some sisters living there. I'll have to track down that story. There are some old convent houses in the 1200 block of Lincoln in Superior that are, from personal experience, some sort of haunted. Go to Nemadgi Cemetery though, it's great. The old frontier graveyard, and it's also the place the city moved the bodies from the indian burial ground on Wisconsin Point in 1912.

I'm creating a site and putting up all the haunted places I can find in Duluth and then putting the evidence my group finds when we go do an overnight. You guys should check it out. It's called Duluth Ghost Hunters. Join the discussion there, suggest a haunted place, join our team, etc.

Does anyone think it's a little ridiculous that schools ALWAYS show up as haunted when you do a search? Apparently all three high schools in Duluth are "haunted."

And the info out there on the Cloquet High School? Supposedly a door in the catwalk above the stage slams ... there is no door in that catwalk to do the slamming, unless they put one in recently. There is a second catwalk, with a door that is locked unless you open it with a key. I spent all four years of high school in the Cloquet auditorium, both catwalks, all the rooms backstage and the light/sound booth, at all hours of the day and night working on production after production, and have never encountered a haunting, door slammings, ghosts or mists or apparitions or anything of the like.

I'm not saying there's no such thing as ghosts, I just think it's fake that people always look to the schools (for the record, before high school, word went around the middle school that it was haunted ... before that, when I was in elementary school word went around that was haunted). I'll believe it when I see it.

There is zero scientific evidence of ghosts. Nada-zip-zilch. Using the empiric method of investigation has led to absolutely no define-able or reproduce-able results. Your own subjective experience may vary.

Slightly related, but I just Googled the sanitorium and didn't get much. What's the story? Is that that big brick building you can see on the hillside east of 35 before you get to Thompson Hill?

My house! I was sleeping downstairs one evening and at approx. 3 am a candle from on top of the TV flew off the set and hit my leg some 6+ feet away.

On another day, I caught a glimpse of a person at the top of the stairs. We believe it to be the previous owner. White long nightgown. It was in the middle of the day.

I've seen two ghosts at my resort and had got a evp. I have had customers ask out of the blue if this place is haunted. It was also put in a book 10 years before I bought the place. I didn't know until I owned the place. They are really nice and want it to stay that way.
