This is all it takes to get an article in the Budgeteer and a bunch of people promising to come to your next (first) show? Really? If I would have known that…
Ok, I am not writing this to start an online war or anything, but I don’t like the precedent here. There’s a lot of bands playing at Homegrown and I am sure they *all* want and deserve the exposure they’d receive if Matt Perrine were to ask them 5 Questions in the Budgie — but, instead, he focuses on someone complaining that he wasn’t selected for Homegrown, and pointing at someone else, saying, how come that person was selected and not me?
I just would hope that in the future, people don’t make a habit of second guessing the Homegrown Committee just so they can get some attention in the media. It’s not fair to the Homegrown Committee — not to mention the bands selected — to put them in this kind of awkward situation.
And, wow, Tim Kaiser or TBT????? Talk about putting someone in an awkward situation! How could you do this to me, Homegrown Committee?
Claire is right. The steering committee is as infallible as the Pope. No second guessing allowed.
Seriously though, I think it’s about time to give Dan a break already. He was upset, he spouted off a little, and then he went to work getting his music heard. The Budgeteer headline may have come off a little harsh, but Dan didn’t write the headline. Nothing about the quotes in his interview seemed obnoxious to me.
On the other hand, rivalries are kind of fun, so screw all you people!!!
I just realized it’s Tim Kaiser up against RGC, and there’s 15 minutes after his performance to get to the TBT show across the street — damn you, Paul Lundgren!
First off, it’s really easy to get Matt Perrine to do an article on your band or project. You pretty much just have to e-mail him. he’s a nice guy and very supportive of the arts. He has done articles on many of the projects I’ve been involved with in the past few years. Is that because of my luminescent-type celebrity? Naw.
Dan is talented, but to say that what he does is so unprecedented as far as Duluth goes? It’s really not at all. I guess what I’m saying is that it’s irresponsible to make unfounded/uneducated statements like that. There have been plenty of people doing a wide variety of music in Duluth for a long time. And there are FOR SURE a shit-ton of folks using music software to make pseudo-soundtrack music just like he does. Just because you don’t bother to pay attention or seek out any of these people doesn’t make it any less true.
I really don’t mean to be a douche, but the music community in Duluth is very important to me whether I like everything created by it or not. Perhaps if Dan put more into this (his) community he would get more out of it.
The Perfectoids love it when you get all “punk” and go against the status quo and are champions of all that is “fringe.” But god forbid somebody considers the Perfectoids themselves as the status quo and out-fringes the fringe.
Really? My cat knows not to crap next to his food dish.
Two thumbs way up.
Are you saying I’m biting the hand that feeds me, TimK?
Danimal, quit trying to create controversy.
Unless it’s this kind of controversy.
I’ll work on that 😉
I guess you would have had to eaten before you could bite that hand…

Don’t damn poor Paul, he’s plenty damned already.
Tim’s actually opposite RGC– they go on at 7. You should have time to get to TBT at 8 no problemo.
Since when does it take more than 15 minutes to cross the street?
Barrett, when you are a jaywalker like me. . . it can take 15 minutes to cross Superior St on a Saturday night.
I’ve seen Jason Cork flat-out sprint from Fitger’s to Quinlan’s during Homegrown to catch the next band. He beat the trolley.
Claire- I didn’t realize I had any cross-over appeal with other bands! Thanks!
Barrett, you gave me an idea. . . rollerblades. Now if I could only figure out how to stop on those things. . .
