Jitterbug

Jitterbug Julie Pearce is leaving the Northland’s NewsCenter. She says this will be her last weekend anchoring the newscasts.

Hello all, yes, the rumors are true… this weekend will be my last weekend as a news anchor for the NewsCenter. This has been a hard decision for me. I’ve been with the NewsCenter now for about 4 years. I work with some amazing people and have truly enjoyed my time there. The big bright studio lights, the cameras, and… deep connection to our community have been extremely rewarding and exciting.

from her facebook page.

After a couple of weeks doing nursing and helping people in Belize she came back and bought a one-way ticket to Haiti to do medical support for people there who have been devastated.

To support her mission:
Attn: Julie Pearce Haiti Relief Fund
Checks made payable to: Duluth Vineyard
1533 W. Arrowhead Road
Duluth, MN 55811

Details from Northland’s News Center Or on the blog of the organization that she is going to support. Team Rubicon

(Update: sorry I missed this before, the story also being covered/picked up by actual journalists WCCO and DNT and who know where else. I bet it gets a lot of attention, and she deserves it IMO)

If the comments get wacky here I will close them. But for now I’d like to leave them open, I find her courage, adventurous spirit and generosity to be profoundly inspiring …

Jitterbug is a friend of a friend, so I heard about this last night. It was certainly a surprise! I hope she'll see nothing but enthusiastic support for this.

Go do good (and do it well), Jitterbug!

I think the headline on the DNT's website is moronic, the headline reads that Julie is "putting her life on hold" to go help out in Haiti. Untrue -- she's embarking on the adventure of a lifetime. Good luck and be safe, Julie, even though I don't know you personally. And keep us posted.

I am so proud of Jitterbug. She is answering her calling. Everything she has accomplished in her life has lead to this moment. As her mentor, mother in spirit and friend I will be praying for her safe return.

I thought it was pretty cool that Michelle called Julie her "daughter in spirit" on the air last night. Very touching...
