Wow, they are all so fancy looking. Never have designers worked so hard to disguise a giant rectangle. I predict once wiener-mobiles become mass produced, this form will be phased out.

Reminds me. There is a local RV dealer ad running during the ch6 news, it's so CRAZY I can't get it out of my head. Maybe it's the combination of voice over effects and novelty neckwear. CRAZY! Apparently the sales manager there has gone insane. Anyone of sound mind and pocketbook is encouraged to take advantage of his fragile, yet temporary, condition.

They must have sold out of the Annihilator.

Isn't camping grand? Getting outside, being part of nature, running roughshod over all creation with complete internal combustion dominance?

Sorry, lapsed into full-on cynicism there...

So, am I going to get in trouble from you environmental vigilantes for the vacation we're about to take? We are renting a 26' RV for a family of four and taking it to Door County for a week. I don't mind snide remarks and good natured ribbing, but I don't want to run into an embargo on my wayback across the Blatnik. On a related note, does anyone have any must-see suggestions for Door County and points in between?

They are great to poke fun at. The basis of an entire comedy film subcategory. Ridiculous, awful monstrosities. But still an enjoyable and culturally authentic experience. We are goofy Midwestern Americans, after all.

This prospect of piloting a complete house overland is a hold-over from a fading era. Do these things now, while you can. As far as green-cred: a family RV trip to Wisconsin is a pretty low impact vacation (all considered). Enjoy your trip. Stay out of the passing lane.

My RV is a yurt. A flying yurt.

I'm not really knocking the RVs or getting environmentally superior on anyone. I just think it's funny that someone would name an RV something intentionally irritating, and better suited to a ZZ Top album than a vehicle.

after we kick the kids out of the house, tamara and i are totally gonna RV it up out in Wyoming someplace during the summer as campground caretakers in the Tetons.

I sometimes wonder about selling all our crap and getting one and cruising around living the dream. Living free in WalMart parking lots. Problem is, even if I sold everything we own at inflated prices, we couldn't afford one.

Shotguns, ATVs, AND chainsaws??

FUCK YEAH!! I'm in!!

I agree with Brian. That would be really fun to be able to drive my house around. But again, all our stuff, house included, would not cover the cost.

Years ago, one of my more impulsive friends bought a vintage RV in lieu of a car. Bad choices. Good times.

If I were to join the RV club, I'd be looking at something more... downmarket. And maybe rechristen it after a Jane's Addiction song. The "Eliminator" sounds too much like some dump station apparatus. Meanwhile, I'll continue to happily tent-it like a communist.

Hmmm just measured my small house. Calculated it would be worth 450 percent more if it had wheels and a slide out dining room.

I flashbacked to the Dead Kennedys' song "Winnebago Warrior"

Roughin' it in the great outdoors
Guidebooks tell us where to go
Winnebago Warrior

Slow down traffic climbing hills
30 gallons to the mile
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]
Winnebago Warrior
Brave as old John Wayne
Winnebago Warrior
A true yankee pioneer

Stop at Stuckey's for a meal
Blab all day on the CB
Winnebago Warrior

Littered campgrounds, folding chairs
Feed Doritos to the bears
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]

Kill some fish down by the creek
Hang their picture by the sink
Show your grandson who's the boss

Tie your two toat-goats to the front
U-Haul trailer full of souvenirs
That you buy along the way [Chorus
