Leif Erikson Viking Ship Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Free
The Leif Erikson Viking Ship Restoration Committee presents a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Leif Erikson Ship site at the Knife River Culture Center.
After many years and relocations the Leif Erikson Ship has a shelter and permanent home. There are several details left to restore — including the cabins at each end, the rudder, etc. — but the project is expected to be complete by summer 2027 to correlate with the 100th anniversary of the Leif Erikson’s arrival in Duluth.
The event is hosted by Save Our Ship, Leif Erikson Restoration Committee, with co-chairs Neill Atkins, Dave Stranberg and Randy Ellestad. Minnesota District 3 State Senator Grant Hauschild will be present and the entertainment is traditional Scandinavian folk music. Some beverages and treats are available.
The Leif Erikson will be open for viewing this summer when weather permits. Parking and outdoor seating at the Knife River Culture Center are limited.
