Flock to the Rock!
Join the Duluth Climbers Coalition for a free day of family friendly, outdoor rock climbing at Ely’s Peak. This event is for all ages and skill levels. All climbing gear and instruction is provided. There is also a hotdog lunch. Parent or legal guardian must be present for all children.
Park at Short Line Park parking lot off Beck’s Road (signs will be present on the day). Short hike to the crag. Last climbs at 1:45 pm. Volunteer belayers are needed for this event. Contact info @ duluthclimbers.org if able to help out for part or all of the day.

This work celebrates the resilience, courage and joy of trans youth navigating today’s challenging world. Explore ways the community can uplift and support queer and trans kids — and leave with tangible ideas for creating a safer, more joyful future for all youth.
Art Night Out: Ish Meets a Mermaid
Meet the minds behind the mermaid at this Art Night Out celebrating the short movie Ish Meets a Mermaid and the full breadth of artistry required in the production of the project.
Hear from director, co-writer and co-star Jonathan Thunder and producer Vera Bianchini about the building blocks of a short video production — from props, to costumes, to lighting, to scheduling and beyond — with a panel discussion-style artist talk. The event includes free snacks, drinks and a live performance by artist Alex Kmett.
It is a pay-what-you-can event with a suggested donation range of $0-50. Registration is available at duluthart.org.
Old Last Night with the Blue Canvas Orchestra
Old Last Night is a Big Top tradition 40 years in the making, celebrate the big blue tent with live music by the Blue Canvas Orchestra.

Duluth Dance Union Workshop #2: Rodeo Scrum
This weekend dance improvisation event is for movers of all types, expert to beginner. Participants of all ages will practice contact improvisation, solo dancing and compositional scores. The goal is to become grounded and dance together in an authentic, affirming, curious, healthy way. There will be beach time, food and a chance to participate in an improvised performance Saturday night 7:30-8:30 p.m.
Rodeos are round exhibitions of skill and a Scrum is a disorderly crowd. Rodeo Scrum is where skill and play roll around discovering new moves.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner provided on August 1 & breakfast on August 2. Shared rooms and free yard camping will be available Friday and Saturday nights with local hosts for out of town participants.
Instructors are Jane Shockley, Galen Treuer, Hijack, Mark Jensen, Marcus Young, Sten Rudstrom, and CDP led by Lindsay Forsythe and Tamin Totzke

David Tromblay in Conversation with Dennis E. Staples
Author and television writer, David Tromblay will be in conversation with Duluth author, Dennis E. Staples. They will discuss David’s books, Coydog: An Anadarko County Novel and the newly re-released, The Essentials.
Coydog: An Anadarko County Novel is the first in a new crime series featuring a Native American bounty hunter who races across Oklahoma to find his man but finds himself deep undercover in the state’s supermax prison to bust a drug ring.
In The Essentials, the global population reaches ten billion, bringing the planet to maximum occupancy. The population must be thinned; every citizen classified: essential or nonessential. Jonathan Shaddox is quintessential.
David Tromblay served in the United States Army and Navy before earning an MFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Art. Dennis E. Staples is an Ojibwe writer from Northern Minnesota, and the author of Passing Through a Prairie Country and This Town Sleeps.
LEAP Summer Social: The Goddess Edit
This summer gathering features cocktails on the patio and a first look at Lakeview Residences, a Downtown Duluth apartment complex. It is a networking event for female leaders, coordinated by LEAP Duluth. LEAP is an acronym for “leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals.”
The gathering includes tours of the building, photo moments, florals and music.
