Pert Near Sandstone and Junkyard Mule

Crossing old-time instrumentation with contemporary sensibilities, Pert Near Sandstone emerged twenty years ago from the Minnesota acoustic music scene. With collaborative spirit, they have established themselves as standard-bearers of the Midwestern roots music scene and alongside Minnesota brethren Trampled By Turtles and Charlie Parr. They have toured extensively and performed onstage with the likes of Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas, earning dates along the way with everyone from Yonder Mountain String Band to Steve Martin.

Sonja Rebecca Martin

Sonja Rebecca Martin is a singer/songwriter from Duluth, MN. She and her husband Lee Martin co-founded the folk group Feeding Leroy and have been writing and singing with the band since 2013.

Sonja’s love of folk music has been influenced by Gillian Welch, Kate Wolf, Sandy Denny and Linda Ronstadt, among others. She loves to harmonize with other voices and find those close weavings of harmonies that you can feel in your bones.

Fairlawn

Ice Cream Social

The annual Fairlawn fundraiser and ice cream social combines community fun, sweet treats, music and activities to support preserving one of Superior’s historic landmarks. Donations from the event will be used for continued restoration efforts at the mansion, new exhibits for the community and helping fund the field trip program.

Besides ice cream, the event will feature a car show, free tours, kids games, a vendor market, a petting zoo with Adventure Acres, raffle prizes and giveaways. It is also the 100-year anniversary of baseball icon Babe Ruth visiting Fairlawn and a new plaque will be presented on the front steps of the mansion. Bring a baseball glove and play catch with special guests, the UW-Superior Baseball Team.
