Better yet- WHY are we naming this “storm”? When did they start calling large accumulations of snow storms??

  3. Paul Lundgren Paul Lundgren on December 3, 2013 at 10:23 am

I think the main reason for naming minor storms is that naming them is more fun than not naming them.

  4. wskyline wskyline on December 3, 2013 at 10:25 am

The official name is Winter storm Cleon.

  5. jessige on December 3, 2013 at 10:49 am

I saw #snownami on Twitter this morning. But that wouldn’t indicate an extended event like this.

  6. spy1 spy1 on December 3, 2013 at 1:24 pm

Laurie, I’m calling it the Jim Croce storm on your behalf.

Like the pine trees lining the winding road
    I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
    I got a name, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I’m living the dream that he kept hid

    Moving me down the highway
    Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by

Like the north wind whistling down the sky
    I’ve got a song, I’ve got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the baby’s cry
    I’ve got a song, I’ve got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I go there proud

    Moving me down the highway
    Rolling me down the highway
Moving ahead so life won’t pass me by

    Thanks, Spy1! 🙂

    Not so fast, spy1:

God told me the storm’s name is Snowmageddon 2013: The Old Testament Strikes Back. This is because hardly anyone on PDD was Officially Thankful when Paul asked us 5 days ago. You just can’t do that to God. Or…Paul?

  9. Paul Lundgren Paul Lundgren on December 3, 2013 at 8:44 pm

Emmadogs, God is wrong on this one. We already had Snowmageddon in 2012. I think we have to go with Snownami.

  10. emmadogs emmadogs on December 4, 2013 at 12:43 am

God knew about -Snowmageddon 2012. He was just playing off of the Star Wars Trilogy, to show His playful, New Testament humor. And to remind us we better be grateful if we want to avoid Snowmageddon 3: Return of the Jediuary blizzard (this is the best riffing I can do at 1 a.m., waking up from the gale force wind noises. Mr Emmadogs already asked me, What’s wrong? and Gracie the dog is audibly moaning at being woken up. Please, God, let me go back to sleep.)

I think right now I’m leaning toward the Tree-Branch Snapping, Finger-Biting Snownami of 2013.

And I’m considering striking the word “minor” in my first comment. I think we’re up to about a 5 on the blizzard scale.

  14. spy1 spy1 on December 4, 2013 at 8:14 pm

Outside looking in was fun. What we have on the hill isn’t fun any more. Tree-snapping is right.

This is indeed one of the more impressive storms I’ve seen in my dozen+ years of Duluth.

I was hoping that my girlfriend and her son, who hail from California, would have the chance to experience a true Duluth snowfall before we head south this winter… and golly, that wish has been fully fulfilled.

Finger biting? You mean Sweaty Balls I Can’t Believe it Snowed This Much Given it was Warm as Fuck But I’ll Take it Anyway Storm 2013

  17. emmadogs emmadogs on December 5, 2013 at 6:51 am

I’m with you guys. This is the “This isn’t fun at all anymore, our power went out and it is freezing, and it looks like it killed my favorite big, old tree in our yard, and my dog refuses to go outside so I don’t quite know what we’re going to do about that, and my boss is probably expecting me at work sometime soon, but I have no clue when my alley is going to be plowed out so please don’t fire me” Storm of 2013.

  18. Paul Lundgren Paul Lundgren on December 5, 2013 at 8:00 am

By “finger-biting” I was referring to the tiger at the zoo biting an employee’s finger, not people biting their own cold fingers.

I guess Brian’s original “Tiger Bite” was the better way to put it, but if I wrote “Tree-Branch Snapping, Tiger-Biting Snownami of 2013” it sounds like a person is biting the tiger.

  19. brian brian on December 5, 2013 at 9:30 am

Crouching Branches, Biting Tiger; great movie.

I’d also suggest the Ibuprofen Storm. That stuff is freakin heavy.

  20. jessige on December 5, 2013 at 5:28 pm

Brian might be on to something there. This is the first one of the year, right? So if we start with A, this one could be Advil…

  21. Beverly Beverly on December 5, 2013 at 11:52 pm

I think the storm will be remembered as “that time we had three snow days in a row.” In my house, it might be the “Austin Powers” storm because we watched one of the movies each day.
And there is no way I’d put ironic quote marks around the word storm. You get two feet of snow dumped on you without it stopping for a break, and that’s a snowstorm. It’s just what it is.

    Snowsgiving.
