I haven’t had a good wopatusi in a long time, which is the delicious and dangerous summertime concoction of a cooler full of fruit drenched in vodka.
Since Ironic1 introduced semantics to this discussion, I will note the what I call a wopatusi, often referred to as a “wop,” is called a “wopatui” in the Urban Dictionary and defined as a mixture of vodka and “a fruit drink such as Kool-Aid or Hawaiian Punch.” But that ain’t the way we roll in Duluth, is it?
You’re mixology is good, Sir. But, there are many ways to look at this. I prefer to view this in a Mayan sacred calendaring system which involves the 20 year mixed drink cycles called Bar-ktuns. Currently we’re about to leave the martini cycle which started in the summer of 1989 and re-enter the Laudanum and Absinthe cycle last seen during the Victorian age. Early adopters have already begun.
Kool Aid or Hawaiian Punch? And mar the inside of my igloo with a hideous red stain? I think not. Neverminding the fact that they have completely omitted the fruit, which is totally the fun part. It’s novel to be able to eat yourself drunk for a change.
Yes, Absinthe is back (after a century or so of prohibition). But, it’s cheaper to simply drink Arak, which I took quite a liking to on my several trips to Ramallah, Palestine. (Althought I have a bottle of each!).
If I recall correctly our wops were always “bring a bottle of any clear liquor” – not just vodka. It’s funny how many people think Everclear is a good idea.
My switches will be (but not quite this weekend, since it’s currently 35 out):
Stouts -> Hefeweizens
Porters -> IPAs
Red wine -> Red wine
Jamo Sours -> Margaritas
Scotch/Whisky -> Limoncello
I like the way you think.
Or, perhaps, gins and tonic.

I believe the plural would be gin and tonics because gins and tonics would imply multiple gins used.
Cheap beer and expensive gin!!!!
Ahh!! What a life!!!
Peace
Todd

Scotches > Burbons, Domestic Whiskys
hot coffee > cold press coffee
i’m also cutting out espresso for the summer.
and i propose that a “spodie” is the new “wop.”
