Damn But I Need A Party!
The last few months for my kids and I have been, how shall I put it, challenging???
Hopefully, within the next month, we will have officially changed our last name. Yeah, you know it’s been rough when your whole family feels the need for a major reboot.
Anyway, what I need from ya’ll is a good place for a gathering of twenty or thirty people of all ages where we can eat, celebrate our new last name, celebrate a new beginning, and not have to pay any kind of a fee up front to rent the space. Basically, a restaurant that could accommodate us without having us at a bunch of small tables, maybe just two or three?
Ideas?
Chester Creek Cafe has a room in their basement that’s good for a group. I’ve been to some pleasant gatherings there, don’t know if it can fit 30 people though.
Talk to the people at Chester Creek Cafe. They might be able to accommodate you. Carla is the owner, Trees is the manager there.
the co-op classroom/kitchen?
Sammy’s Pizza in West Duluth has a large back room that can accommodate that kind of crowd. The only drawback is that they won’t always let you reserve it ahead of time. We’ve had several birthdays and other gatherings, and once they told me that it couldn’t be reserved. Other times they’ve held it for us. It’s certainly worth a call, especially if you like their pizza.
If you want really nice, I think Valentini’s also has a party room someone told me they had an event there once that was good.
You are in my zone, here. But I don’t really know many places that would do this without a rental charge. Ridge view lanes was doing some stuff like this, plus people could bowl, too.
You might talk to (one of my favorites) Uncle louis about staying open and using their back room, if that’s big enough. Sunshine cafe and some other similar folks cafe type places might do the same.
I would agree with Valentini’s, good choice there.
Another idea would be to get one of the community centers (or even better, a park) and do it with simple catering and/or a pot luck and/or a family picnic model. A local farm, state park facility or church basement might work for that option, too. Might be done for under $500 … might not be …
speaking of bowling… Incline has parties all the time, I don’t think there is a reservation fee.
I’ve been wanting to have a party at the wine bar at Chester Cheek…small intimate, and groovy cool. Private and you could order some eats and beer & wine.

I’ve been to some FAB parties at the CCC wine bar! It is groovy, that’d a perfect place to have a little do! No kids allowed though.
Remember Shakey’s Pizza? That would have been a fun place.
You have to reserve the classroom at the co-op ahead of time, and I think there’s a small fee. I’m pretty sure that you can reserve at the Sammy’s in West Duluth, I’ve been to several parties there in the past that most definitely needed to be planned.
