Watching the Twins

Actually, I was kind of serious. We got no cable, and the American League games, all of them, are on TBS. Totally bites. Even the ALCS isn’t available for us Luddites. And, no, there are no options for friends with cable. So, if I am forced to go public with my Twins devotion, my bandwagon hopping on, where do PDDers suggest I go without feeling like I have to buy a beer every inning — though that may be fun on a Friday. Looking for low-key, non-sports bar setting. Possible?

Have you ever heard of radio?

It’s 2010. There’s this thing called the internet.

T-Bonz has lots of tvs. I’m sure quite a few of them will be tuned to the game. Not a sports bar. Good food.

VV: Love the radio, it’s the only way I’ve followed all summer. But playoffs requires turning it up a notch.
    DG: Right.
    Thanks Rae.

    Duh, Twins Bar.

Last year there were posts on PDD with links to where post-season Twins games could be found illegally streaming online. But it’s kind of a crap shoot and I seem to remember that once we posted a link the stream would jam up and be useless.

If Charlie Brown’s in Superior still has an all-you-can-drink Wednesday-night happy hour for $5 you won’t have to spend much — but you’ll have a weekday hangover to deal with. It’s been a while since I’ve been there, though, so I don’t even remember if they have a TV, much less cable or a $5 special.

I second T-Bonz. Good food, lots of TVs, good beer.

I usually go to the Reef when I’m going somewhere to watch a televised sporting event. In the case of the Twins (as opposed to weird esoteric stuff like the NCAA basketball tournament or the NBA playoffs), the game might even already be on.

I have mlb.tv this season and I believe you can watch the playoff games on there. They have a postseason package to watch the games online for $20. If you have a high-speed connection its cheaper than 4 beers at a bar.

Luce. Not a sports bar, lots of Twins fans.

Sean – I thought mlb.tv blocked games when your location was in the market area of the team. Is it different with playoffs?

The lobby of UWS’s Yellowjacket Union (the big new building with the green roof) has several TVs that appear to have cable and be on at all times. I suspect no one checks IDs and there’s nothing to buy except when the coffee shop is open.

I watched a lot of games at Famous Dave’s this year. The TVs aren’t great but they have $2 pints all day, every day. Not a sports bar and they have the best wings in town. My option if I’m not at the Twins Bar.

Watch it at Hanabi. They always show the games on at least one TV.

After loading up with viruses to watch the World Cup, I decided to throw down $9.95 and stream Twins live. Works great, but after a couple minutes, I get a “temporarily unavailable” message. Looks like they aren’t broadcasting sufficient bandwidth for their customer base. A rip off.

MLB app for blackberry works like a charm.
