Perfect Duluth Day

Video Tour of Former Finland Air Force Base

“The right amount of elbow grease” is what the narrator recommends during this video tour of the former Finland Air Force Base, located about 50 miles northeast of Duluth, which is listed for $800,000.

The catch? It’s a superfund site.

The Finland Air Force Station closed in 1980. The Twin Cities-based alternative online news source Racket reported this week that the buildings on the base “were constructed with asbestos and lead paint; the soil is contaminated with diesel fuel, PCBs, and TCE, resulting in the quick poisoning of freshly drilled wells.”

Below is a 2015 story from North Shore Community Radio WTIP about the “toxic legacy of the former Finland Air Force Base.”
