University of Minnesota Duluth students in Writing Studies 4200, “Writing and Cultures,” will edit a collection of creative writing (poems and nonfiction) about what can be learned from a travel experience. They are soliciting writings from everyone (students, alumni, and the broader community) on this topic for inclusion in the collection.
Submissions could address the ways that travel teaches us something about ourselves, about our home, or about the people and places we encounter while traveling. The submissions might address …
- What I learned from global travel, travel across national borders
- What I learned on a trip across the United States (a road trip or a trip to see family)
- What I learned on a day trip (camping with family or picnicking or being a tourist within your home town or state)
- What I learned on a trip across town (to visit your family, taking the bus home from school, etc.)
Submissions should be less than 5,000 words (20 typed pages) for essays and journals; poetry submissions should include no more than five individual poems and no one poem of more than five pages in length.
Submissions will be reviewed by students in the class and by faculty with related expertise.
Authors retain all copyright of their work; we seek only permission for first publication in the collection, which will live on the Minnesota Libraries Publishing Project and as a Kindle book.
