The Tamburitzans, the longest-running multicultural song and dance company in the United States, has rehearsed in Lake Nebagamon for its national tour since 1947. Mary Ellen Miller had the story for KBJR-TV in 1978 when the Tammies invaded the Lake Nebagamon Village Auditorium.
Headquartered at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pa., the group gets its name from the Tamburitza family of stringed instruments in the folk cultures of southeastern Europe. The ensemble has expanded its repertoire in recent decades to include a variety of folk dance and music representing international cultures.
Lake Nebagamon is about 25 miles southeast of Duluth.
