Perfect Duluth Day

Postcard from the Hiawatha

Hiawatha

The stamp was removed from the back of this postcard, and the postmark went with it, but it appears to be circa the 1960s. The caption reads: “Daily excursions during season from Grand Portage, Minn., to Isle Royale National Park. For further information write the Sivertson Bros., in Grand Portage or Duluth, Minnesota.”

An Isle Royale National Park brochure from 1962 mentions the Hiawatha twice.

The Hiawatha, privately operated by Sivertson Bros. Fisheries, of Duluth, Minn., makes a round trip daily from Grand Portage to Windigo Inn; late June through Labor Day.

Naturalist-guided trips lasting about an hour start from Windigo Ranger Station 5 days weekly to coincide with the schedule of the Hiawatha from Grand Portage, Minn.
