Perfect Duluth Day

David Munyon – “Coffee in Duluth”

The song “Coffee in Duluth” is not available on the internet, but we nonetheless note its existence on Perfect Duluth Day … just because that’s what we do.

It was released 25 years ago on David Munyon‘s 1996 album Acrylic Teepees on Glitterhouse Records. The artist is an American-born singer-songwriter who appears to have found some success in Germany and continues to release new music and tour.

According to an interview on the Insurgent Country website, Munyon had help writing the song:

Coffee in Duluth is a great song mostly written by the very famous songwriter Pebe Sebert, who wrote several “smasheroonies” and the song “Old Flames Can’t Hold a Candle to You.” Pebe Sebert is a beautiful, generous lady. I promise to play “Coffee in Duluth if you ask me. I’ll try my best. You know I’m a bit “Dis-abled”? But I still try my very best. And, did you know that the song “spiritually speaking” is for Bob Dylan and Joan Baez?

Coffee in Duluth
(David Munyon / Pebe Sebert)

How have you been
Had to call your mother
To get your phone number again
I saw two doves
They reminded me of how we both used to run
So wild and free
So full of innocence and truth
Now look at me

When I need a shot of where I’ve been
You know I’ve always got to talk to you
So if you’re driving through
And got the time
The grass is so darn green
It’s almost blue
And, there’s coffee waiting for you
In Duluth

I guess you heard
I left Portland and came back home to work
Gave up the road
But you kept our vision
You never gave up hope
You’re just an old shoe
Out in the wind
Singing at Holidays Inn
Ah, look at you

When I need a shot of where I’ve been
You know I’ve always got to talk to you
So if you’re driving through
And got the time
The grass is so darn green
It’s almost blue
And, there’s coffee waiting for you
In Duluth

I knew the first time I saw you
you’d be my friend for life

When I need a shot of where I’ve been
You know I’ve always got to talk to you
So if you’re driving through
And got the time
The grass is so darn green
It’s almost blue
And, there’s coffee waiting for you
In Duluth
