There are a mere two races on Duluth’s citywide Primary Election ballot for 2017 — city council at large and school board at large. Voters in District Four, the area highlighted on the map below, can also vote to whittle down the choices for that council seat.
Duluthians who intend to pre-register to vote have until Aug. 22 to return voter registration cards to the city clerk’s office in City Hall. Voter registration cards can be obtained in the clerk’s office or by calling 218-730-5500. An online version is available at duluthmn.gov. The main pubic library and all branch Libraries also have cards available.
Basic requirements to vote in the city and school district Primary Election are as follows:
- the person must have become 18 years of age on or before Sept. 12, 2017
- the person must have lived in Minnesota for 20 days prior to the election
- the person must have been a citizen for three months prior to the election
Absentee ballots are available at the city clerk’s office. The office will be open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and also on Saturday, Sept. 9, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Monday, Sept. 11, the office will be open an additional half hour, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Individuals voting by absentee ballot or on election day who are not already registered or need to change their address must, at the time of voting, present an acceptable identification at the polling site. For a list of acceptable forms of identification, check the Secretary of State’s website.
