Perfect Duluth Day

Zenith Bookstore opens July 1 in West Duluth

A year-long quest to launch a shop selling new and “gently used” books is almost complete. Zenith Bookstore will open for business July 1 in the former Wild West Liquor building at 318 N. Central Ave. in West Duluth. Perfect Duluth Day first reported about the store’s development in September.

The inventory of 20,000 books includes genres ranging from children’s literature to regional works. A selection of greeting cards, toys, journals and other book-related items will also be available. Hours will be Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Special events such as children’s hour, author signings, and readings will be held in the space. A grand opening event is being planned for September.

The 19th Century brick building has been extensively remodeled since Bob and Angel Dobrow purchased it nearly a year ago. It features hardwood floors, a reading area and a literary-themed mural by local artist Tom Napoli showcasing the storefront.

The Dobrows recently moved to Duluth from Northfield. Bob is retiring from 20 years of teaching math and statistics at Carleton College. Angel is active in the sustainability movement, and plans to start an herbal practice in the Twin Ports.
