Selective Focus: Music

Many very good submissions this week, and I’m especially happy with all the unusual vantages points:  Brian’s empathetic portrait, or that lovely flower in Gaelynn’s hair.  I was also moved by the shots of crowds, after all music is as much about how it is received as it is about how it is made.

Which brings me to a somewhat esoteric point. I would someday love to hear (though more like, not hear) a performance where an artist requests that there not be applause. Why? I believe that music, when done well, can navigate us to a recognition of silence- of the void at the universe’s heart- that we too eagerly fill with reciprocal noise, and thereby miss a poignant possibility. Just a thought.

Accordingly, next week’s theme will be “silence.” Send your unwatermarked, signature-less images by Wednesday at 11:59 p.m to tim @ perfectduluthday.com — 1000px at their largest dimension — along with title (if any), and URL of your website, Facebook page, Tumblr, or Flickr stream.
