Next Wednesday, June 29, is Perfect Duluth Day’s eighth birthday. As usual, we are having a little get-together, and as usual we are inviting you all, as frightening as that might seem.
So swing on by the Burrito Union next Wednesday in the vague window of 8:30 to 10 p.m. or so. There will be no program or live music or plan to get people drunk and sell them condos; it’s just our annual opportunity to meet in person and shoot the breeze with the folks who put the P in our double-D.
In addition, yours truly will be a guest on “The Local” with Christine Dean next week, celebrating PDD’s birthday by playing songs with “Duluth” in the lyrics or title. That’s Wednesday, June 29, 5 p.m., on 103.3 FM KUMD.
By the way, we should probably let you all know what’s up with some of the technical weirdness PDD intermittently experienced in recent weeks. Here are the boring details:
Although PDD has had good luck for most of the past eight years existing on an inexpensive shared server, there were three occasions this month when we had to take the whole site down and reinstall our publishing platform, WordPress, because some garbage code worked its way onto the site.
We recently decided to go ahead and cough up the dough for a virtual private server. So some day soon, probably in the middle of the night, we’ll be making the switch, which will no doubt cause more annoying little problems, but we hopefully will have fixed them before you wake up.
You may have noticed on Monday night that a few posts disappeared for a few hours and then reappeared. That was because the company that provides our old/current shared server decided to finally try to be helpful and migrate us to a new shared server to “improve performance and reliability.” Of course, since we’ll be dumping this company’s services soon in favor of a virtual private server, Monday’s migration was kind of a nuisance. Anyway, we re-posted the stuff that disappeared during the migration, but comments to those posts were lost, and we apologize for that.
Also, some comments to this post disappeared when it was discovered they were embarrassing to humanity.
