Battling Obstacles Living with Disabilities provides a unique style of theatre performance that exposes community and student audiences to the talents of individuals with disabilities, opening new channels for dialogue and providing a venue to “talk” across barriers. BOLD-choice Theatre Company is created by Choice, Unlimited.
The Peach is an original piece created by the BOLD-choice Theatre Company based on Roald Dahl’s classic novel James and the Giant Peach. The play explores the idea of finding and fostering friendship and acceptance in unexpected places. The characters in The Peach face the challenges of stereotyping, loneliness and alienation while discovering new ways to build confidence, identity and support.
The characters in the story include wicked aunts, unique insect friends, newscasters, cloud people and of course sweet James, searching for a place to belong. There are adventures and obstacles throughout, bringing the group of unlikely companions closer. As the story progresses the actors themselves share with the audience their own insights to the challenges and triumphs they have encountered. The Peachis a not only a play, but an opportunity for audiences to lose themselves in another world while learning valuable lessons about who we all choose to surround ourselves with.
Choice, Unlimited is a private nonprofit agency dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities and persons who are experiencing barriers to employment and community inclusion. BOLD-choice Theatre is part of Choice, Unlimited’s Arts Program.
