Homegrown Music Festival 2022 Primer

The Homegrown Music Festival is back in person, May 1-8. There’s a 100-page Field Guide available as usual, with all the specifics about the 195ish bands performing at 45 venues in the Twin Ports, but what are the hot updates? Well, that’s why PDD always kicks out a primer.

The full up-to-date Homegrown schedule is at duluthhomegrown.org/schedule, but here’s a cheat sheet of what has changed since the Field Guide went to press a month ago:

A section of Superior Street, from Fourth Avenue East to the Pickwick parking lot, is closed to traffic to allow the installation of a new Minnesota Power duct bank. That means the trolley route on Friday and Saturday of Homegrown will be radically different than the original map in the Field Guide. An updated map is below.

Obviously this route will slow the trolley down significantly. A round trip to all the downtown venues has been about 20 minutes in previous years. This year it might take about 30 minutes. Also note the Fitger’s parking ramp is accessible and open during construction.

There have been four additions to the Homegrown lineup:

Nine acts have canceled, positive COVID-19 tests being the issue for most:

Three acts have changed positions on the schedule:

WDSE 103.3 FM “The North” will have Lanue in the studio during The Local, which airs on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. There will also be Live from Studio A sessions throughout the week. The schedule is as follows.

Monday, May 2, 2 p.m. – Robin Hood was Right
Tuesday, May 3, 2 p.m. – Alberto del Toro
Wednesday, May 4, 1 p.m. – Emma Jeanne
Thursday, May 5, 2:30 p.m. – Morningbird
Friday, May 6, 2 p.m. – The Field Birds

The lineup of performers for the annual Poetry Showcase has been announced. The list is in the graphic above.

For those participating in fashion themes, that info is laid out above.

When is Homegrown’s temporary headquarters open and where is it? Answers above.

Who is playing in Rich Narum’s living room on Thursday? The fancy poster by Jay Whitcomb has that info.

… or follow #hgmf22 on any social media platform.

Tickets can be purchased at Zenith Bookstore in West Duluth, Globe News in Superior, the Chicken Shack, or any venue that requires paid admission.

And in beverage news we note that while Homegrown has had numerous beers named in its honor over the years, 2022 is the first year there’s a Homegrown cider. Duluth Cider has made its Henhouse Hopped Berry Cider available at select Homegrown venues. It is made with mosaic hops, raspberries and mulberries.

In addition to Duluth Cider, the locations with Henhouse are Pizza Lucé, Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, Sir Benedict’s Tavern on the Lake, Zeitgeist, Wussow’s Concert Cafe, Dubh Linn Brew Pub, Izzy’s BBQ Lounge and Grill, Mr. D’s Bar & Grill and the Duluth Flame Nightclub.
