The city of Duluth is advising the public that locations in Canal Park may not be accessible due to windy conditions and high waves causing water to flood some areas. The Marine Iron Parking lot located closest to the canal, some segments of Canal Park Drive and Harbor Drive have standing water. The city has put up barricades where the areas are not passable.

A portion of the Lakewalk Trail is temporarily closed from Endion Station to the Portland Malt Shoppe stairway. The segment from the Malt Shoppe to Water Street is open but not passable at 16th Avenue East due to barriers in place.

Brighton Beach is closed to pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

City crews are working to clean and repair the areas and will inform the public when the Lakewalk and Brighton Beach can be reopened.

The Duluth Transit Authority ran mainline-only bus service along Grand Avenue in western Duluth and East Superior Street in eastern Duluth this morning. Regular service resumed at 1 p.m. The DTA Operations Department has been monitoring road conditions on the hillside during this winter weather event and determined it is safe to resume regular routes. Passengers should still anticipate delays.

Duluth’s Public Works and Utilities Department is implementing a water conservation request to Duluth residents until 6 p.m. Saturday. With the high levels of the lake, the water treatment plant is not able to properly treat the intake of water due to excessive inflow of sediment. Residents are asked to refrain from using large appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines.

Today’s general hiking trail conditions: More difficult and more fun.
